Palestine Freed Leonard Peltier! Not Biden!

America had to commit just one more genocide, just to see if the world was still afraid of it but the people of Gaza and their warriors have broken the resolve of the empire, the empire’s warriors and more importantly, have broken the Biden team’s public image. Biden couldn’t preemptively pardon his entire family, which should tell you everything you need to know about the Biden’s, without buying off the public, that will be calling bullshit on preemptive presidential pardons and in the courts, without at least one major pardon like the long suffering Leonard Peltier, to placate the public’s desire to put Biden behind bars.

I’m not going to get into Leonard’s history with his wrongful conviction for the murder of two FBI agents but will recommend you read In The Spirit Of Crazy Horse by Peter Matthiessen and watch Incident At Oglala, a feature documentary produced by Robert Redford. You can also watch Thunder Heart, the fictionalized feature film version of events that took place on the Pine Ridge Sioux reservation while the US was in pursuit of uranium under the reservation. Now Leonard will return to an Oglala that has been polluted by uranium mining, to find a wounded people but not a broken people.

I have known about Leonard’s and AIM’s plight since I was just boy in the late 1960s and early seventies. My brother managed the Indian Metis Centre in Winnipeg and had run into Peltier and other AIM members around Main and Logan in Winnipeg. My mother made sure we understood the plight of the First Nation’s people by having us volunteer, helping urban Natives to get by. My mother understood cross cultural immersion completely as she spoke most European languages by the time she was 18 and was from eastern Europe where people are still very tribal. After surviving WWII, crossing Europe in 1944 and 45, during the worst part of the war, my mother developed deep compassion for anyone suffering, anywhere. My mother’s people are in part descended from Laplander and Russian Inuit. My mother was shocked at the way the European dominated society in Canadas violently dealt with the fallout of crushing Native culture and wealth.

Today though, is Leonard Peltier Day and we must celebrate this great victory of breaking the European colonist’s resolve to keep Leonard behind bars for a crime he did not commit and was acquitted for but tried for a second time, with a corrupt judge and false testimony. Who cares about the ham that just became president, who wants to end the reservation system to shut down Indian casinos and bingo halls and take those markets for himself.
